Identification keys are presented in two different formats: traditional dichotomous keys where a choice needs to be made at each key couplet to continue, and Lucid matrix keys where relevant states from multiple character features can be selected independently until identification is achieved. This is an updated and revised 2024 key version of the 2020 version (still available below) incorporating changes to the herb gall wasp key couplets 14-16, and to the brachypterous or apterous Cynipoidea key couplets 33-35. Stand alone pruned keys to the world herb gall wasp tribes and apterous and brachypterous Cynipoidea are also provided below.

This is an updated and revised key to Cynipidae sensu lato retaining taxa that have subsequently been elevated to family or subfamily rank since 2020: Diplolepididae, Pediaspidinae (now a subfamily in Diplolepididae), Paraulacidae (all of which were former tribes in Cynipinae).
