Idioporus affinis LaSalle & Polaszek, 1997.

Classification

Distribution Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico (LaSalle et al., 1997, Myartseva & Ruíz-Cancino, 2000). Introduced to southern California from Mexico (Bellows and Meisenbacher, 2000).
Biology Parasitoid of the Giant Whitefly, Aleurodicus dugesii which is a pest on host plants in at least 77 genera within 47 families (Heraty & Burks, 2024; Redak et al., 2002; Schoeller and Redak, 2021). Idioporus affinis, along with Entedononecremus krauteri (Eulophidae) and Encarsia noyesi (Aphelinidae) was imported to southern California from Mexico in the 1990s for the biological control of Giant Whitefly on Hibiscus rosa-sinenesis (Bellows and Meisenbacher, 2000; Heraty & Burks, 2024; Schoeller and Redak, 2018).
