Close up of the cuticle of Chrysis splendens. The tactile hairs situated in each depression register any movement across the cuticle surface. The stimulus is transmitted via the attachment socket to muscles and relayed to the nervous system.  In this way the wasp perceives touch and the amount of space surrounding it whenin nest burrows.
