The Rhoophilus gall wasp oviposits into the moth galls when
they are young. This causes the outer tissue layer of the moth gall
to proliferate and expand, and this is where the wasp larvae
develop. Gall wasp females lay eggs from April to August and adults
emerge either the following year from January through to July from
the hard, brown galls or the following year from two year old galls.
