Stizus niloticus Handlirsch

Stizus niloticus Handlirsch, 1892. ♂ Syntypes in Berlin (ZMHU) and Vienna (NHMW). Type localities: no specific locality (Egypt), and Tor (Sinai).

Stizus saharae Roth, 1934. ♀, ♂ Syntypes in Paris (MNHN). Type localities: Redir de Tigemt and Timissao, Algeria. Currently treated as a subspecies of Stizus niloticus.

Distribution

Chad, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Libya, Oman, Sinai, United Arab Emirates, Yemen.

Biology

Females excavate burrows in sandy soil. One to several cells are provisioned with mantids or grasshoppers.
