Distribution

Australasian, Nearctic and Neotropical. Highest species-richness ocurs in South America, followed by Australia. The Nearctic region is represented by Acordulecera species that are present in eastern North America. The Australasian region includes records from Australia, New Britain, Papua New Guinea, and Sulawesi. One species has been introduced to New Zealand.

Diversity

60 extant genera with 442 species.

Biology

Phytophagous. Various plant hosts are used as well as aquatic ferns and fungi.
