Arge meyi Koch

(Life: Kingdom: Metazoa (animals); Phylum: Arthropoda; Class: Hexapoda; Order: Hymenoptera; Superfamily: Tenthredinoidea; Family: Argidae; Subfamily: Arginae; Genus: Arge)

Arge meyi Koch, 2006. Holotype in (NNIC). Type locality: Brandberg Massif, Namibia.

Distribution

Namibia.

Biology

Specimens were collected using a sweep-net on Rock Commiphora (Commiphora saxicola Engler), Burseraceae. This bush or small tree is endemic to the south-west African semi-desert vegetation type, occurring on stony hills and rocky mountain slopes in the fringes of the Namib. If A. meyi is monophagous on this host plant, it is possible that this sawfly is also endemic to the region (Koch et al. in press).
